Rippling IT 2024 roundup: Advanced security and full lifecycle management (and what’s next)
Over the past year, our R&D has been hard at work making Rippling IT more robust than ever. We added advanced security features and expanded the capabilities of all of our solutions, including identity and access management, mobile device management, and inventory management.
It’s never been easier to secure your company and automate every step of the user and device lifecycle. When you manage identities, access, devices, and physical inventory all from one unified platform—anything is possible.
Let’s get right to it and break down the major Rippling IT releases of 2024 (plus a sneak peek of what’s to come).
Strengthen security with ease
Given the unique infrastructure underlying all of our IT solutions, advanced security can be applied in a few clicks, not a few months. We’ve made device trust possible, expanded our MDM support, and added passkeys for extra coverage.
Device trust
Using Rippling’s unified MDM and IdP, you can now easily enforce behavioral detection rules with Supergroups to ensure only applicable users with managed devices can access specific third-party apps and company resources. Setup only takes a few clicks and maintenance is a breeze, with Rippling providing public key infrastructure and acting as the certificate authority moving forward. You can also layer additional conditional access policies—based on triggers like IP address, impossible velocity, sign in location, and more—on top of device trust to strengthen security even further.
Passkeys
Rippling now supports passkeys, making it possible for employees to sign into their accounts with a more secure method than traditional passwords. Passkeys are phishing-resistant, protecting your company against the number one cause of data breaches while reducing support requests for resets and account lockouts.
New and improved IT activity logs
Our new IT activity logs give you total visibility into identity, access, and devices across your org from a single pane of glass. Downloadable and exportable to a SIEM, IT activity logs will aid troubleshooting with detailed user data and event records across your logins, OS updates, software installations, device assignments and orders, user actions, and more.
Automate lifecycle management for users and devices
Because Rippling IT’s solutions were natively built to work together from day one, you can automate the entire user and device lifecycle from a single platform instead of hopping between tools or manually checking things off. We’ve released custom IT approval chains for onboarding and offboarding flows, made app group management even easier, and launched zero touch deployment.
IT Management
With IT Management, you can choose to be as hands-on or hands-off as you like when it comes to onboarding, employee transitions, and offboarding. With customizable workflows, permissions, and automations in place, you’re in control. Set up custom approval policies for actions like app provisioning and device assignments. Want to set your HR partners up for success and let them handle the IT basics, like ordering new hires' laptops? You can do that. Would you prefer to control every aspect of IT in one place yourself? You can do that too.
Easily hit the ground running with templates as well, such as, “Requiring IT and finance approval for all device orders over budget” or “Requiring IT approval if an app request is outside of the normal scope for the new hire’s role.” You can now manage approval requests and tasks like those from a single dashboard, giving you full visibility and control over lifecycle management while eliminating busywork.
Zero touch deployment
You can now instruct devices to silently download and install the Rippling Agent. This lets you configure your company’s devices in the background—applying security policies, installing software, and keeping compliant—without creating work for your employees.
Create third-party app groups directly in Rippling
Most third-party integrations with Rippling have a concept of “groups,” like email lists in Google Workspace or channels in Slack. While you’ve always been able to manage their membership in Rippling using Supergroups, you previously had to create and edit the groups outside Rippling. Now, you can create these app groups directly inside Rippling and automatically push them to the third party app, so you never have to switch tabs.
Device Supergroups
You can now build dynamic groups of devices using device attributes like manufacturer, operating system, user assignment, and more in combination with user attributes, and then deploy software, policies, and configurations to that group. For example, you could deploy specific software to devices with Apple silicon chips that are assigned to engineers or automatically remove an office Wi-Fi configuration profile from any device where SentinelOne detects an unsafe threat.
Global inventory management
Our inventory management solution is truly unique, making physical device logistics as simple and secure as possible. No more messy supply closets, missing devices, or last minute trips to FedEx or Best Buy. And we just expanded our reach. Now you can ship, warehouse, and retrieve laptops 100% remotely for employees in Canada, Australia, the UK, and the EU.
Manage devices more easily than ever
And that’s not all. Here are a few more additions we made last year to support end-to-end device management.
Unified device management
Securely manage your employees’ mobile devices, including personal (BYOD) devices, iPhones, and iPads, right alongside Windows and macOS. Rippling MDM leverages Apple’s latest technology, Declarative Device Management, to give you real-time data syncing without hindering performance. Enforce password policies, sync Google and Microsoft accounts, share contact information, and more with one-click template deployment.
Check your fleet in seconds
You now have device dashboards embedded in the overview tab of the Devices app. These dashboards give you a high-level view of your fleet—from encryption status to inventory levels at warehouses around the globe. If you want a deeper dive, simply click into the dashboard to get a detailed look at report data, individual user data, and even specific device profile pages.
Expanded Windows configurations
Configure your company’s Windows devices any way you like with more than 300 pre-built settings that come with the Windows Policy CSP. Now you can create custom configurations like disabling Bluetooth, or preventing your camera from turning on.
We’re constantly growing our Windows MDM software catalog as well, and now you can access more than 100+ new titles. Still not seeing your software of choice? Simply request a new title to be added by contacting Rippling support.
Zero day support for macOS Sequoia
Rippling Device Management is compatible with Sequoia from day one. You can manage and control exactly when employees make the update to Sequoia on the Updates tab of the Devices app—as well as easily identify which devices in your fleet are eligible.
